British Values Statement
At Kewstoke, we think it is very important that our pupils develop a strong set of values and principles, and that they question and understand what it means to grow up in British society. One of the ways in which we do this is through our weekly “Time to Talk” sessions. The children meet together in their houses which are named after the core values at Kewstoke: Passion, Compassion, Inspiration, Aspiration and Celebration. Every child in the school is given the chance to take part in a discussion and everyone has a voice which is valued. These sessions help us as a school to embed the fundamentals of democracy: listening, speaking and questioning.
Democracy forms parts of our everyday learning. Our rules around school are developed with the children and they have the opportunity to make their own choices, knowing the consequences of outcomes. Through our Time to Talk sessions we nurture an understanding of right and wrong and discuss important issues. Children are confident in their rights as learners and are able to enjoy individual liberty in our school community.
Above all, our school is built on strong relationships which reflect our strong British Values. Adults provide positive role models, creating happy and purposeful learning environments which have British Values embedded throughout.
