Our visions and ethos are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
Kewstoke Primary School is an inclusive learning community developing caring, confident and motivated individuals with a love of learning and the desire to continue to learn. We nurture happy children who aspire to their ambitions and dreams and are equipped to make meaningful contributions to the world in which they live.
As a school we are working to establish our pupils’ independent learning skills to be more able to make judgments and tackle challenges with resilience and stamina. Our work on the Learning Behaviours needs to continue and The Learning without Limits principles builds on and supports the work we have been doing. The Learning Without Limits principles have been developed from the work of a team of Cambridge researchers, most notably, Mary Jane Drummond, who started their research in 1999.
As a school community we have all acknowledged that everyone is capable of extraordinary and incredible things. To that end we are committed to finding innovative and exciting ways to help our children understand that there is no restriction to what they can do if they want to. There is no ceiling or limit to what any individual can achieve.
To transform the Learning Capacity for our pupils we need to trust our children to make decisions that are right for them and to challenge themselves in their own learning in order to establish a deep understanding of the world in which they live. This applies to everybody in the learning community – we all have a voice and deserve to have our voice heard – adults and children. We need to learn to work together collaboratively to ensure co-agency – active engagement children and adults working together with shared responsibility. Finally, our children need to learn to keep an open mind where there are no pre-set expectations limiting the learning of any of our pupils.
All this can be achieved for our pupils through the Learning without Limits agenda.
Our key words for learning, through which we articulate our ethos and vision, are: passion, compassion, inspiration, aspiration and celebration.
